Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO) is the work of making your business the one an AI assistant names when a buyer asks for a recommendation. This guide explains what AEO training covers, who it is for, and how a Malaysian employer funds it through HRD Corp.

Why ranking is no longer enough

Buyers have stopped working through ten blue links. They ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity or Google's AI Overviews for a shortlist and act on the two or three names that come back. Traditional SEO optimises to place a link in a list. AEO optimises so your business is named inside the answer itself. If you are not in that answer, you are not competing for the deal, you are not in the room.

AI does not read your website. It reads the internet about you.

Models weigh consistency across every source they can read, not just your homepage. That is why positioning, rather than page-level tricks, is usually the real blocker. If your business describes itself three different ways across your site, LinkedIn and directory listings, a model has no stable entity to name.

What AEO training should cover

Writing answer-shaped content an engine can lift and cite. Building and validating structured data so an engine knows what your business is and sells. Mapping the real questions buyers ask before they shortlist. Rebuilding an existing page so it is citable rather than merely ranked. And measuring monthly whether AI assistants name you or your competitor.

Who it is for

Malaysian mid-market companies selling considered purchases, where buyers research hard before contacting anyone: IT services and MSPs, systems integrators, cybersecurity, cloud and data centres, and B2B SaaS. Also the categories where trust decides the deal: consulting and B2B advisory, property and real estate, education and healthcare, insurance and financial services, and manufacturing.

Frequently asked questions

Is AEO training HRD Corp claimable?

Yes, when it is delivered by a registered training provider with an accredited trainer and your company is a levy-paying employer in good standing. Rise Digital Enterprise is an HRD Corp Registered Training Provider, TP No. 36116167453, and Stephanie Lam is an HRD Corp Accredited Trainer. Which scheme your application is submitted under, and what you can claim, depends on your levy balance, so confirm the current scheme and rates against HRD Corp's live circular before you submit.

What is the difference between AEO, GEO and SEO?

SEO ranks a page in a list of links. AEO, or Answer Engine Optimisation, gets your business named inside the answer an AI assistant writes. GEO, Generative Engine Optimisation, describes the same work and the two terms are used interchangeably. SEO still matters, because the engines still crawl and still weigh authority.

How long does AEO training take?

One full day for a working team, delivered in-house at your office or as public seats. HRD Corp's minimum funded duration is four hours, so a full day sits comfortably above it.

Do we need to be doing SEO already?

No, but you need a live website your team can edit. Good training is hands-on and your team works on your own pages, so you need the access to change them.

How do you measure whether AEO training worked?

Use a monthly AI-visibility tracker: a fixed set of buyer questions run against the major AI assistants, recording whether your business is cited. Run it before the training and again 60 days after. Attribution from AI referrals is poor, so self-reported answers on forms and calls remain the most reliable signal.
